Taro Milk Tea Recipe
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the Taro Root:
- Peel the taro root using a vegetable peeler or a knife. Be careful, as taro can be slippery.
- Cut the taro root into small cubes for faster cooking.
Cook the Taro Root:
- Place the taro cubes in a saucepan and cover them with water.
- Bring the water to a boil and cook the taro until it is soft and easily pierced with a fork, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the taro and let it cool slightly.
Make Taro Puree:
- Transfer the cooked taro cubes to a blender or food processor.
- Add a small amount of milk (about 1/4 cup) to help blend the taro into a smooth puree. Blend until completely smooth.
- If the mixture is too thick, add a bit more milk until you reach a creamy consistency.
Brew the Tea:
- Brew 1 tea spoon to make 1 cup strong black or green tea and let it cool to room temperature. You can use loose leaf tea or tea bags.
- Once brewed, strain the tea leaves if using loose leaf tea and set the tea aside.
Cook the Tapioca Pearls (if using):
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the tapioca pearls.
- Cook according to the package instructions, usually around 5-7 minutes, until the pearls are soft and chewy.
- Drain the pearls and rinse them under cold water. Set aside in a bowl of simple syrup to keep them from sticking together.
Assemble the Taro Milk Tea:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the taro puree with the remaining milk and brewed tea. Stir well until everything is thoroughly mixed.
- Add sweetener to taste, if desired. Stir until the sweetener is fully dissolved.
Serve the Taro Milk Tea:
- Place a few spoonfuls of cooked tapioca pearls at the bottom of a glass.
- Fill the glass with ice cubes.
- Pour the taro milk tea mixture over the ice, giving it a final stir.
- Serve with a bubble tea straw and enjoy!
